Zapf’s Civilite Disclosed.
Designed by Leonard Baskin. The Gehenna Press, 1996. 9 x 12 ½ inches, 25 leaves, 150 copies. Composed and printed by Art Larson.

“Leonard, being Leonard, knew exactly what he wanted and what he didn’t want. But there was always a point beyond which he stopped specifying, in obsessive detail, what was to happen in a design, in the printing, and in a binding. I think he delighted in the refinements that his 'myrmidons' presented to him. The sketches Leonard gave me to set from were more than enough to get me started in the setting of the type for this book, but there were many seat-of-the-pants decisions to make in the setting and shaping of the pages. This is the kind of collaboration that can happen after printing 30 books for someone over a span of 18 years.”—AL
